About this issue
Volume 7, number 4 of Mayfair, the British men’s magazine founded in 1966, catalogued here as a 1972 issue. It dates from the early 1970s, when Mayfair was a young, independent British title still finding its place beside Penthouse and Men Only.
About the magazine
Mayfair was launched in London with an August 1966 cover date by Fisk Publishing, a company controlled by Brian Fisk. It was conceived as a British answer to the American lifestyle magazines: glamour photography sat alongside short fiction and serious features on subjects such as classic cars, railways and military history. In 1968 it absorbed its rival King, and in 1990 the title was taken over by Paul Raymond Publications, publisher of Men Only.
